School is back and so is the Autumn season! With the changing road conditions of the season and cooler temps, it’s important to prepare your Lexus accordingly. Here is a checklist for your Lexus to stay well prepared for the Fall season and upcoming winter.

Tires: Tread depth and pressure should be checked by you or your independent Lexus repair mechanic. Tread is important for wet/slippery conditions and cooler temperatures can cause tire pressure to drop. *Check your spare tire for these things too!

Brakes: Wet roadways and debris (fallen leaves) can make braking more difficult. Brake pads need to be examined for wear and replaced if needed. Also, brake fluid levels should also be checked.

Battery: Colder weather can drain your battery quicker, so have it tested by a qualified ###name## service specialist, along with the cables and connections checked for corrosion.

Lights: As the days get shorter (sigh!) and the nights get longer (boo!) visibility can become a problem while driving for you and other motorists if you don’t check your headlights, tail lights and turn signals for proper functionality.

Wipers/Washer Fluid: Rain, snow showers and fallen leaves (again) can impair vision while driving. Make sure your wiper blades have been replaced if old or worn and to add/top off your washer fluid (use winter-grade washer fluid if you live in a climate that gets cold in Fall.).

Fluids: Check the proper coolant level for your Lexus and make sure the correct mixture is appropriate as well. Engine oil should also be examined at this time too, switch to a winter-grade formula if needed.

Defrosters/Heater: Fogged windows pose as a safety hazard due to limiting visibility. Have your local Lexus repair specialist take a look at your defrosters, examine and fix if necessary. Also it’s a good time to make sure the heating component in your Lexus is working too.

Rust Protection: Be proactive and consider a rust protection treatment to the underbody of your Lexus if you live in a colder area that gets salted frequently.

Emergency Kit: And finally, have an emergency kit on hand at ALL times in your Lexus. In the cooler months be sure to have/add a blanket, flashlight, snow scraper (if snowy climate), first-aid kit, battery charger/jump starter and extra washer fluid.
